The Skoda Kushaq was launched in India in June 2021

Exterior

The Skoda Kushaq is built on Volkswagen’s MQ A0 IN platform that is specifically engineered for the road conditions in India. Illustrating the signature butterfly-shaped grille, it features sleek LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and high-mounted fog lamps. Other highlights include roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, silver faux plates, split LED tail lamps, and plastic cladding on both the sides.

Interior and feature list

Inside, the Kushaq will be loaded to the gills with features like an electric sunroof, a two-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting, USB-C charging ports, front ventilated seats, keyless entry, and a 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Wireless SmartLink connectivity.

Engine and performance

The Kushaq is offered with two petrol engines. First up is the familiar 1.0-litre TSI petrol that produces 114bhp/178Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. There is a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI on offer too that generates 147bhp/250Nm of peak torque coupled with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG unit.

It is available in the Active, Ambition, Ambition Classic, Style, Monte Carlo variants

Safety

Like its sedan sibling, all versions get dual front air bags while the top-spec models get six airbags. The Kushaq is one of the first cars in India to get a five-star rating for both adult and child occupants in the GNCAP crash tests. Other safety features include ESP, traction control 

Competition

The Kushaq is a rival for the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and even future models from Nissan and Renault.
